The TrailBy Terry Dwyer

In 1973, the world was a different place. There were no mobile phones, no laptops and no credit cards. International travel was problematic and little was known about distant places like Afghanistan or Timor. The Vietnam War raged and Bangkok was the fleshpot of Asia. In the October, deteriorating relations between Israel and her Arab neighbours would culminate in the Yom Kippur War. That year, the "hippie trail" between Europe and India lay open. Overland travel between Australia and Europe was possible. In April 1973, I hitched out of Sydney, heading for London. This is my story.

Review
Blue Ink Review In 1973, Terry Dwyer left his dead-end job to take the journey of a lifetime, earning passage from Australia to Asia and then overland along the "hippie trail" to Europe. The Trail is his engaging travelogue, introducing readers to fellow travelers and taking them along as he encounters holy monkeys, winged cobras, treacherous Thai "ladyboys" and angry border guards. The Trail is a well-told tale, a page-turner in the best sense. Readers will find much to appreciate here.
