Comprehensive and readable; all the details I want.City bus and train portable. A bit expensive but worth the price. Not pedantic !

It has been long a waited publication and is definitely the best introducing the important Chicago School of Architectures and architectural guide to general public as well.

Exhaustive guide with a lot of information, maybe too much for someone who is going to Chicago for only a couple of days.

Limited to the Chicago city limits and Oak Park, the selection of buildings is good, but certainly not exhaustive (Evanston would have been a nice addition). Since commercial architecture is so important to Chicago history, there is a palpable emphasis on these structures, particularly Chicago's early modern skyscapers. Readers with an interest in churches, universities, and other grand public buildings may find the coverage spotty, and the author's tone a bit flippant.The book is in standard AIA format, with short essays for each entry, some including a small photograph. In fact, the major flaw with this book, in my opinion, is the lack of effective photography. There's a photograph for, perhaps, one out of every ten building entries, and the entries that do include photos are often not that interesting. One tries to come away from this book with a mental image of Chicago, derived from the text, but with little assistance from photography. There are also more than a few entries that include no text, simply the building name, address, date and architect. Keep your favorite internet map program handy.There are so many magnificent things to see in Chicago, it's a shame this guide doesn't much help us to see them. That (critical) matter aside, it's a solid and important addition to the AIA-sponsored series.

Excellent resource for people truly interested in the facts about architecture & design in Chicago. I would not recommend for the average traveler looking to discover more about Chicago architecture.

Just before the release of "Golden", I saw an interview with sports columnist and author Marcus Thompson II on NBC Bay Area Sports. I preordered the book and read it quickly during the 2016-2017 NBA season. I just completed a second read now.As a sports writer, Marcus Thompson offers more than a biographical study; he analyzes many aspects of two-time MVP Steph Curry's family upbringing, training, character and challenges that have made him a game-changer for pro basketball in the second decade of the 21st century. Curry, at 6' 3" was considered two small to compete in the NBA. There were many who dismissed him, even when he was breaking records. Not only did Curry prove the experts wrong, in many ways, Steph Curry has changed the Golden State Warriors and the NBA. This is what makes Marcus Thompson's study a must read (I feel) for parents and coaches, for Curry and the Warriors have returned basketball to the status of a team sport, a home-town game - a game that is fun to play and a joy to watch, and which unites a community for the good.

I'll make this short. If you love the Warriors and Steph Curry - this book is for you.

I'm a Steph Curry fan and a fan of the Golden State Warriors so any review I write would be somewhat biased towards this book due to the subject matter. That being said, the book was well written and features a lot perspective on how the Golden State Warriors have built up this franchise and a lot on the life of Steph growing up.

If your kid wants to emulate a pro athlete then this is your guy. Definitely a class act. The book is well written & goes in depth into what makes him the person & the player that he is. Skill plus a LOT of hard work have made him a star athlete. A strong upbringing, family life, & faith make him the humble guy that most people admire.

A comprehensive and in depth look at a sports figure that has exploded onto the NBA stage and set the bar higher in many ways than anyone else in history. Listen, be entertained, and learn how Stephen Curry's personal values keep him centered, and focused on what is important in life.

Great writing on the inside world of basketball and on the challenges Steph Curry overcame to become the greatest shooter of all time, aka The Baby-Faced Assassin, aka #1 Splash Brother. It is an inspiring read for all young people who were ever told that they cannot achieve a dream. Must read for Steph Curry fans! Book helps to show the strengths and resolves of this amazing young man!

As a Bay Area native who grew up with the Warriors being terrible (save Run TMC, the We Believe team and the Spreewell-CWebb “what if” team) its been amazing to see the Steph Curry-Klay-Draymond era. This is a great look at Steph Curry and the upbringing that led to his humble (off court anyway) superstardom. While I give it a 5 star review I will say if you are an avid Warriors fan who has been watching Fitz and JB and listening to Tim Roye over the Curry era you won’t learn much you don’t already know from those sources. Still a quick and easy read that I highly recommend for any Steph Curry fan or Warriors fan or anyone wanting to see a refreshing story of a professional athlete worthy of the accolades and fame.

Marcus Thompson is so good at writing that I had to chew on each chapter time and time again. Fun, detailed, insightful.[Spoiler Alert!!!]The first half is bright and joyful, all about the miraculous rise of Steph. The last few chapters, however, should be named "the heartbreaking downfall of Steph Curry," which led me to relive the painful experiences of last summer and Christmas.In a word, if you are a Warrior fan, a Steph fan, or simply into basketball, this is a must read for sure.
