I enjoyed much of the book. There are lot of great tools for someone especially new to sales. I like the real life scenarios and tangible tools however,much of the book could have been boiled down to 3 chapters and of that, I still can't see how it justifies the cost of this book. It took me an hour and a half to read and while I can see it being useful, I don't see it being life changing.

The background context is clearly the insurance industry, with the ever present incumbent, but regardless of the product or service the competition is always close by, and the lessons in this book are applicable to all sales. Organized into eleven chapters in three sections, along with an appendix, the author explains the limitations and drawbacks of traditional approaches, how the Wedge approach is much more positive and successful, and the why. It reinforces the requirement that the sales professionals have to do their homework, know and understand the prospect's viewpoint, and ties in very well with consultative selling. With examples and method maps as training aids, easy to read, the lessons in this book are well worth studying and practicing.

I first read How To Get Your Competition Fired and loved it. I recently bought (and returned) The Wedge. It is almost an exact duplicate of How To Get Your Competition Fired. There are a few areas where he says things a bit differently but it's basically the same.I have a feeling The Wedge for Financial Advisors is the same as well. He has one good idea and seems to be rehasing it with different titles, but it's all the same concept. I'd say to get How To Get Your Competition Fired and the Red Hot Introductions book and you'd be set.

For anyone who wants to close more sales, this is the book to read. I use this book in sales training classes with excellent feedback from students. Randy Schwantz opens up a whole new way of closing sales by helping you do a better job of analyzing your prospect and your existing competition, and by giving you a method to help the prospect ask you for help.

I'm not a seasoned sales guy, but I am a business owner that found the material repetitive and pretty basic. I thought the book could have been condensed in about half the space. It seems the going rate is $30 for this book (not much less for used) - so I had pretty high expectations, which fell a little short.Perhaps I'm just a simple guy or not smart enough to glean all I should have from this book. I'll probably keep it in my library to re-read another time - but don't expect to get too much more out of it.This is just my opinion... so it's worth just that :-)

I do not believe that sales is a "contact sport". The author is promoting setting up warfare, and manipulation in order to succeed. This is a playbook, for certain, but not for a game I can endorse.

I had to move to another state than my university in order to take care of an ailing relative and was unable to complete my thesis, due to the absence of my advisers. I figure that even though this is an older version of the book, it will be helpful for anyone who is actively involved with their thesis work, as they will have plenty of other materials available from their instructors, the school of their major, the library, etc. So, what I am trying to say is that, for the money, it appears to be a good aid for someone getting ready to, or who is actively involved in writing their thesis.

This book is filled with so much useful information on all of the ins and outs of writing a master's thesis that I cannot imagine how anyone could write without it. It answers all of the questions you did not even know you had about search engines and exactly how each chapter has to be structured and how to put all of the chapters together. I am just in the beginning stages of writing my thesis but I am certainly glad that I have this book as my companion on the journey.

Great book, however it will be much better if the examples divided fairly between qualitative and quantitative methods. For there are few examples for qualitative method.

Seems to be great help but I unfortunately don't need it for what I'm doing right now except for maybe a reference guide.

This is a useful book and it's helping me especially in the statistics description, every director and student should have it. I strongly recommend it. Kindergarten-Grade 5?In the style of a rollicking American tall tale, Ketteman spins a story in which things go from bad to worse on a Kansas farm when a Heat Wave hits. Just how hot was it? Hot enough to make the corn pop in the field, causing the hound dog to turn blue (because he thought it was snow, of course) and hot enough so that an unfortunate flock of geese that flew through it came out the other side, all plucked, roasted, and stuffed. Enter the narrator, a quick-thinking young girl whose big brother Hank used to tease that "girls could never be farmers." Her solutions are even more far-fetched than the roasted flock of geese: she bakes a huge loaf of bread to lure in the crows with their great fanning wings; and, when that doesn't work, she plants lettuce to cool the air. Iceberg lettuce. The bold illustrations are incredibly clear and lively and contribute significantly to each scene's general disarray and commotion. Using acrylic, oil, and colored pencils, Goto has created full-page panoramas balanced on the same fine line between reality and fantasy as the story. When a passing heat wave gets snagged on the barn's weather vane, strange things start happening: the mercury blasts out of the porch thermometer like a rocket; a flock of geese flies in one side of the stalled heat wave and emerges from the other plucked, stuffed, and roasted; Ma's flowers pull themselves up by their roots and flee into the shade. And--well, you get the idea; though the story ostensibly takes place in Kansas, it's clearly Tall Tale Country we're visiting, instead. It's finally up to a plucky young farm girl to save the day with an ingenious scheme involving produce (lettuce give credit where credit's due!). Goto's hot-colored pictures are as over-the-top as the eye-popping tale. For further tall-tale fun, don't forget Sid Fleischman's classics about McBroom and his wonderful one-acre farm. Michael Cart

Ketteman (Bubba, the Cowboy Prince, p. 1646, etc.) repeats herself in this pack of lies fashioned into a Kansas-style tall tale. Just as Beanie was not up to the job (``too young'') in the author's 1993 tale, The Year of No More Corn, the narrator in this story has been told by her brother that girls can't be farmers. Once again there's a heat wave, once again the corn pops off the stalk. In the other book, chickens laid hard-boiled eggs; in this one the cows jump around on the hot ground so much that their milk turns to butter. That's not the end of the tall tales, which come to a close only after the narrator thinks to plant iceberg lettuce to cool the place down. Goto's eye-popping, thermometer-busting illustrations are perfectly matched to the story's exaggerated dimensions; weird angles and brash colors give the fields and farm a parched look ideal for the antics in the foreground--even though those antics are too familiar.
