I have been coaching high school baseball for over 20 years now and this is the best book for high school players I have ever read. It is a must read for any serious baseball player. Before I purchased the book, I was worried if the content would be appropriate for high school players because I read so many reviews from coaches who assigned it to their 10 year old travel teams and people who said that they read the book in one sitting, etc... I was pleased to find that this book is full of ideas that can't be digested in a single reading and the material is much more appropriate for the brains of high school players than for 10 year olds (though some ideas are appropriate for all ages). Many books talk about the mental game of baseball, but I especially love the hands on suggestions this book gives to players to work on their mental game. I highly recommend this book for both coaches and players.

I've played a lot of baseball and over the years I've learned a few things about staying focused and so forth but I could have never put it into words and strategies the way Tom Hanson did in this book. I am thoroughly enjoying this book and it is filling my head with ideas on how to help my players. This book presents simple and concrete strategies for improving players' mental focus and process during practices and games. This is a book I will read more than once. I already restarted it once because there were so many good points that I wanted to highlight for later reference. I seem to highlight about 1/10 of every page.The book is actually written primarily for players and has worksheets and so forth to engage the reader and make them active in the process. My players are 7 and 8 so I cannot have them read it but I've recommended it to their parents because some of the strategies at the start of the book are relevant for being a successful person, not just a successful athlete. In many ways these really young players are the ones that need these lessons the most but they lack the attention span for a book like this. Maybe when they are 12. I am enjoying using small doses of it with my players and I am looking forward to what the long term impact of these lessons will be for these boys.

This is a great book-easy read. If you want to bring your playing or coaching to another level, this helps with the mental part of the game. It is an easy read. I learned about this book from a sports physch training. It brings into focus what happens when we don't let the game end and continue to stew. I recommend this from 12 years and older.

Was recommended by our pitching coach. If your daughter/son is struggling with confidence, GET THIS BOOK!! I might suggest this for a team book study.

Maybe the best books for young ball players. I want my son reading it once per month as long as he plays. Incredible content and nuggets to pick up each time you read. Cannot possibly read enough and absorb all the information. Like a baseball "bible" of sorts. Application to all sports and frankly life in general.

I never read the book, but my son (14) read it in a few days last week and then he went 4 for 5 that weekend. That ended a huge slump for him. I'm not sure what the book did for him, but when I asked, he said something about humming tunes, breathing techniques, confidence, and routines. He also was doing something funny with his glove. He called it part of "his routine". My son could hit in the batting cages and practice but not so well in the games. That changed this last weekend. Only difference was this book. But could be coincidence. Will see over the next few weeks. His coaches and hitting coach always tell him his problem is in his head. Sounds like a common problem for all baseball players from little league to Major Leagues.

If your kid is in Baseball, Softball or any sport, this is the book you want to get for them. Great muscle memory ideas and methods to get to the next level. Highly Recommend it!!!

My son is a Little League coach and will love teaching from this material on "mental toughness" as a part of his team's "discipline" which plays a vital role in each young player's confidence in his/her ability.

Just 16 when her lover was conscripted, Vera devotes herself selflessly to the care of the town's many war widows: she rows out to tend to the widows' graves on a nearby island and lives alone, ever watchful. The narrator, writing in retrospect but 26 at the time of the story, was educated in St. Petersburg; ironic and arrogant, he believes he has Vera's selflessness figured out as a prosaic, idealized vision of womanhood. And yet, he learns, Vera has studied advanced linguistics in St. Petersburg, and returned to Mirnoe by choice. The closer he gets to her, the more he is shamed in the face of her towering presence. Makine, now almost 50 and the author of eight other novels (including Dreams of My Russian Summers), lives in Paris; he transforms a very simple premise into a richly textured story of love and loss. This wonderful novel is set in what is known as the Soviet period of stagnation--the 1970s, or late Brezhnev era. The university-educated narrator wistfully looks back on a few months in mid-decade when he left his cynical and jaded friends in Leningrad to travel to a small provincial town near the White Sea. Ostensibly writing about provincial folk customs, but also hoping to gather material for an anti-Soviet satire, he instead meets Vera, a woman much older than he who has waited 30 years for her lover to return from World War II. Makine, whose previous novels include Dreams of My Russian Summers (1997), presents an elegantly enigmatic tale that explores a number of themes that may seem a little outdated to some readers but which meld seamlessly with the novel's mise-en-scene, including devotion, duty, and the contradiction between perception and truth. The latter is driven home by the complicated relationship between the narrator and Vera, and the brief moment when he all but morphs into her long-lost lover. Frank Caso

Looking at JMB's works, you can see the influence of his mother ("Gray's Anatomy" book she gave him in the hospital after he was hit by a car at age seven), and I believe her difficulties deeply affected him.

I live in Spain and received the book very fast.I was very excited about see more pictures about this young artist who died so soon.The book was in perfect conditions, and I enjoy it a lot.I bought another book of basquiat from Taschen ed. but is not as good as this one. It has less pictures and less interesting paintings.I strongly recommend this book. In order to make a small complaint I'd love to have seen more pictures of the paintings made in collaboration with Andy Warhol.Thank you very much.

I invite all professional photographers to comment on the level of "expertise" of the repros issued in this book. Several of the photos are out of focus--as in JMB's "Undiscovered Genius.." There is never any excuse, no matter how wide or tall the painting (some are 10 or more feet), for any work to be out-of focus. Other paintings have their original color so distorted or leeched that these repros are criminally inept.This book should be re-called and the photos re-done. It's that bad. The Marshall book, which another reviewer praises, is vastly superior to this book, with the exception of one painting "Notary," which is better repro'd in this book. A few essays and several new works make the book acceptable, barely, for a collector, but even the art-auction catalogues issued by Sotheby's, Christies, Phillips, etc. have superior reproductions of JMB's work. This edition is truly a mockery of a professional art book. I suggest getting the Marshall book, or nearly any of the other books on JMB, esp. those from Germany or France, some of which appear on Ebay as well.

This is an excellent art book for the price. It contains a large number of color plates of Basquiat's best works, along with some good scholarly essays. The color plates are fairly small, however, with many of the paintings only taking up a half or a third of the page. Full page reproductions would be much more satisfying, but the book is still worth its price. I was pleased that the curators of this exhibition omitted the dreadful Warhol collaborative works, as those are such a down note for Basquiat books to end on. This collection manages to present the very best of his final works, rather than demonstrating, as many works on this subject do, that Basquiat's talent waned and failed.

So many beautiful pictures! I gave this book to my boyfriend for his birthday as he is a big fan and he has been obsessed ever since. Definitely one for fans and new comers a like. Very reasonably priced considering how dense with colour pictures it is. So happy.

The book offers a variety of essays on Basquiat. There is a chapter dedicated to his use of words, well written, insufficient for academics though. The publication is fairly extensive and covers both biographical and critical aspect of this author.

The images in this book almost mirror the images shown in the 1st Basquiat retrospective book from the Whitney Museum (edited by Richard Marshall). If you own the Whitney book, there's no need to pick up this one because you'll be looking at a lot of duplicate images. If you don't own a Basquiat book, you can't really go wrong with either edition and I would lean towards the newer book. But there's no need to own both of them. So why the low rating? It's a shame that the curators didn't take the opportunity to add something new for Basquiat fans. Many years have passed since the 1st Whitney retrospective and we're basically presented with a book that repeats what's already been printed. Unfortunately we'll have to wait for someone else to put out a book of new Basquiat material for us to see.

I love this book! Full of great colorful plates and information about Basquiat's life.
