I prefer to purchase these books rather than reading them through the ATI website. So far I have found the content to be the same. If your school pays for your ATI and you don't mind looking at the computer screen for hours, you don't really need this book. But I like to have it in hand so I can bookmark and flag pages, and whittle my way through easier. Used versions of this would be fine, you definitely don't need a brand new copy.

Very helpful when studying Med Surge. The chapters sum up the massive amounts of information that we are taught in nursing school. I used this book to study (along with my class notes, of course) and saw my grade go from a D to a B!

I'm sure when I get the book, I will love it, but it's sure taking a long time to get here! This book is perfect for studying for a med-surg challenge exam - everything is in bullet points and will save countless hours of time reading a two volume Brunner and Suddarth set.

Though his books were set in a wide range of places and times, and though their characters differed drastically in many ways, some themes reappear throughout his works, and these repeating patterns give the reader a great deal of insight into the mind of Hermann Hesse. One of his earliest novels, Demian, focused on the Neitzschian concept of the Apollonian versus the Dionysian spirit. This is a conflict between the passionate and the structured drives that occur within all people, and it is a conflict with which Hesse wrestled his entire life.

Another important idea within Demian is the concept of right and wrong. Hesse once wrote in a letter to his parents that "the morality of artists is replaced by aesthetics," and in the novel Sinclair expresses an appreciation for music because it is amoral, or outside of good and evil. According to Nietzsche, morality is a construct that arises solely from society and only by shaking off the chains of that construct and exerting their will can anyone truly be who they are.

This idea of finding oneself, of searching for the deepest, most honest parts of one's own nature is another concept that Hesse struggled with, and another that appears in all of his books. Hesse came from a family that saw the innate nature of mankind as savage and somehow unclean, and who believed that religion was the means required to control that nature. This is a compelling new edition of the Oresteia. It rivals all existing Oresteia's and perhaps comes closest to Lattimore's version in accuracy and completeness of text. It is my favorite Oresteian Trilogy alongside Peter Meineck's version.Christopher Collard preserves the intricacy of Aeschylus's language while keeping the drama moving naturally. He does not force poetry or ideas into Aeschylus nor does he subtract, edit or delete words from the text (as often is done and can be seen in Fagels's and Vellacott's translations). The poetry comes out magically by itself.How Collard wins over Lattimore's version though is through the translation. The realism of the drama, the sentences structures, and the speeches all form naturally and normally. In Lattimore, the speeches and the drama becomes congested, contricted and (unnecessarily) complicated through how he structures the wording and poetry of Aeschylus's text. Collard does not use the tired and old fashion English like Lattimore, nor does he update the idom by using modern American English or slang. You can't really pinpoint which language style he's using, but indeed it is beautiful, readible and contemporary English. It's like he has become a transparent mouthpiece for Aeschylus and not mask of his own creation.There are also some very intriguing and very interesting touches Collard does within the plays. Throughout are descriptive italic markings, brackets and hyphens, indicating detailed stage directions and emotive expressions. He freely uses lyric, prose, and verse in his translation as Aeschylus does in various settings and scenarios.His is the most scholarly version as it incorporates the most up-to-date findings and research into Aeschylus and the Oresteia. From original to copied manuscripts, he compared many ancient and modern editions of the Oresteia and so some of his version includes subtle changes and slight differences when compared to other translations. He informs you of missing lines and includes passages that appear as fragments in the originals, which have been glossed over or not noticed by other translators.His explanatory notes and introduction are immensely extensive. They include so much research and attention to detail that one wonders how one man could know so much about Aeschylus and the Oresteia!The Contents not only have 4 incredible essays on Aeschylus and the Oresteia, but also include summaries of the plots, text & translation notes, a massive bibliography, a chronology of Aeschylus' life, family trees, and even a map of ancient Greece!I believe it is safe to say that Christopher Collard is now the leading interpreter of Aeschylus, and a milestone in the history of Aeschylean translation and scholarship.

Katherine Frank's solidly researched narrative is particularly good on the early years of Indira Gandhi (1917-84), cogently delineating her complex relationship with her father, nationalist hero Jawaharlal Nehru, which was intimate when they were pouring out their feelings in letters, but strained when they were actually together. We see an intelligent, strong-minded woman coming of age in a turbulent time marked by her relatives' frequent stays in prison as India struggled for freedom from Great Britain. After independence, when Nehru became prime minister, Gandhi was politically active but for many years resisted seeking power in her own right. Following the deaths of her husband (Feroze Gandhi, no relation to the Mahatma) in 1960 and Nehru in 1964, she moved into the top spot, aided by the Congress Party bosses' mistaken impression that she would be a figurehead they could manipulate. On the contrary, Frank shows Prime Minister Gandhi prompted by her deep fear of disorder toward increasingly authoritarian acts, most notoriously the state of emergency declared in 1975, when she authorized the arrest of many opposition leaders. Frank depicts Gandhi as having more faith in her personal bond with the Indian people than in the messy workings of democracy. But the religious and political divisions inflamed by her policies came home to roost in 1984, when she was assassinated by her own bodyguard, a Sikh enraged by the massacre of militant Sikhs in the Golden Temple. The most striking aspects of Frank's readable, well-wrought biography are Gandhi's sad childhood and her reluctance to enter politics. She attended upwards of seven schools in Switzerland, England and India and was often separated from her family her tubercular mother died when Indira was 19; her father and many family members were in and out of jail during the Independence Movement. Indira herself was sickly (she spent 10 months in a sanatorium in Switzerland during WWII), and, at 37, she wrote to a friend, "I am doing a tremendous amount of work these days but I have not discovered my m‚tier yet." Schoolmate Iris Murdoch remembered Gandhi as "very unhappy, very lonely, intensely worried about her father and her country and thoroughly uncertain about the future." Only after the deaths of her husband, Feroze Gandhi; her father; Jawaharlal Nehru, independent India's first leader; and Lal Bahadur Shastri, his successor, did she come into her own politically. Not a political biography, Frank's book (via letters and conversations with close confidants) comes closest to showing the human Indira who joined politics because she felt duty-bound to uphold her father's secular, inclusive vision of her homeland. Frank (A Passage to Egypt: The Life of Lucie Duff Gordon; etc.) shows that Gandhi's increasing isolation, loss of confidence and closeness to her son, Sanjay, caused her later to impose the Emergency (suspending civil liberties and jailing opponents) and play castes, religions and political groups against one another contrary to her father's ideals.
